Dr. Linda A. Streit received her bachelor of science in nursing from Indiana State University, master of science in nursing from Old Dominion University, and her doctor of philosophy (nursing) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 2004 -2020, she served as HRSA Nurse Faculty Loan Program PD/PI. The NFLP supported students through a loan forgiveness program designed to support and prepare qualified nurse educators to fill nurse faculty vacancies by supporting schools of nursing that prepare students to serve as nurse faculty. During 15+ years of grant submission and oversight, she was able to support over 130 graduate nursing students with total awards in excess of $6M. Over the years, her research presentations have spanned the globe, including international presentations in the United States, Greece, Ireland, Taiwan, Russia, and Canada. She was the chief organizer for the American International Health Care Alliance program, which provided support to nursing faculty and students at The Medical University of I. P. Pavlov in St. Petersburg, Russia. She has held many positions in academe, including 12 years as dean for nursing at Mercer University. She is involved in many organizations, which includes leadership positions in the following groups: American Association of Colleges of Nursing, accreditation site visit team member for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, as well as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, board member and treasurer of the Georgia Association of Nursing Deans and Directors, immediate past board member for the Southern Regional Education Board, nursing division, Ethics Board for Northside Hospital, and Sigma Theta Tau International. Although she has received many awards for her work, she is extremely proud to be selected by the National Student Nurses Association for the Leader of Leaders Award.
Dr. Streit authored several book chapters and research publications on topics related to cardiac disorders, infection, and nursing education and she serves as a reviewer for publishers. She is the recipient of many honors and awards of excellence, including the NSNA Leader of Leaders Award (2015) and outstanding faculty member awards at multiple colleges and universities. Dr. Streit, an acclaimed educator and clinical practitioner, participates in classroom and clinical education, as well as assuming the responsibilities associated with her administrative role. She is a Virginia Henderson Fellow, a consultant to nursing faculty, nursing student groups, agencies, and in the review of health care.
She is most passionate about her commitment and service to Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (SIGMAI). She volunteers as a reviewer for many STTI awards and she supports philanthropy efforts within the organization; she is a Virginia Henderson Fellow. She recently completed two, two-year consecutive terms as STTI North America Region 7 Coordinator, which includes support for STTI chapters in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Puerto Rico. She served as 2019-2021 Sigma Foundation Chair and previous to this term served on the Foundation Board of Directors.
